Who We Are

Opus 2 Orchestra is a strings group rehearsing and performing in Monroeville, PA.

We welcome any local orchestral strings player ages 10 through adult of all backgrounds and skill levels. This includes violin, viola, cello, bass, and even harp!

  • We perform arrangements for string orchestra, sometimes with soloists. This ranges from classical pieces to jazz, rock, and popular music, so the group maintains well-rounded knowledge of all types of music and performance style.

  • We rehearse weekly on Tuesdays from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm beginning the first Tuesday after Labor Day through May. Our regular concert season follows an academic calendar structure, so we take June through August off.

  • The orchestra performs two concerts each season, one in the fall and one in the spring.

  • Our concerts are held at different locations from where we rehearse, as our rehearsal space does not have an event space that meets the size of our group and audience for performances. Concert locations are announced to the group at the beginning of each concert cycle if not at the beginning of the season in the fall.

  • Currently we rehearse in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s multipurpose space, located at 4503 Old William Penn Highway, Monroeville, PA 15237

  • Yes! We accept musicians for the full season, fall concert cycle only, or spring concert cycle only.

  • Yes. Currently membership for the full season is $150, or split into $75 payments each for the fall and spring concert cycles.

  • All membership fees are used to cover operational expenses of the orchestra and provide scholarships to graduating high school senior members.

  • Opus 2 Orchestra is led by our artistic director and conductor, who is usually a music educator and musician in the Pittsburgh area.

Operations of the organization are done by a Board of Trustees consisting of local musicians and parents with students involved in the group. The board works entirely on a volunteer basis.
